Health and Safety Considerations

Thank you for taking the time to look after the health and safety of your participants and team.

Every organisation that partners with Parenting Place to deliver our courses has the responsibility to ensure all health and safety requirements are being met for every course facilitated.

Please ensure you ask your manager for health and safety information before you facilitate a course. Your organisation will have their own health and safety plan/systems, for specific direction on what to do.

Below are some simple guidelines to provide general assistance to you when setting up a venue and facilitating a course. Check if your organisation has covered these areas in their health and safety plan:

Course participants guidelines – advise on:

  • Emergency response and evacuation procedures.
  • Location of fire extinguishers / hose reels.
  • Location of toilets.
  • Food ingredients in case of allergies, and follow legislated Food Hygiene Regulations.
  • Accessibility options.

Further guidelines to consider:

  • All hazards have been identified and communicated with you prior to training.
  • There is safe and easy access for participants when entering the venue.
  • All access areas are clear (stairwells, hallways, building entrances).
  • There is adequate lighting outside, at entry and exit routes, and throughout the parts of the venue that are being used.
  • All electrical equipment and appliances are in safe and working order.
  • All hazardous substances (e.g., cleaning products) are stored safely.
  • There is a first-aid kit on hand.
  • The venue has a current ‘Building Warrant of Fitness’ (which should be displayed at the entrance of the venue).
